Your post
Hi Abigail! I really had a hard time finding anything to give you constructive feedback on for this post. You did a great job including everything! Your mention of becoming more passionate towards learning after it connected to your interests and prior knowledge reminds me of the topics discussed in module 2. After finishing the content today, it was helpful being able to connect the resources to some of the examples you mentioned in your post, activating my own prior knowledge and solidifying my understanding.
As you will read in my blog post, when looking at Keller’s ARCS model, I also connected the most with relevance. Your example of lesson planning for your practicum is fitting. However, something I found interesting was that it also relates to your hamster story. Only when you knew your reading would be relevant to your everyday life, taking care of your hamster, did you truly become motivated.
You mention that having the prior experience of working in hospitality helped you apply educational theory in a practical way. I’m wondering if you have an educational theory you connect the most with? You mentioned constructivism related to your hamster story, but I’m unsure if that relates to your pedagogy as well.
Your blog
I love the colour scheme of your blog. As soon as I clicked on it, it felt welcoming and refreshing. I also love that you had your menu bar clearly laid out so it’s easy to navigate.
As I mentioned, you did a really good job at including everything required in your blog post! I’m not sure if including all of the pieces from the ‘what to include in your blog post’ checklist is part of the blog post rubric, but you may want to check if a list is required. However, sometimes they don’t fit with what you are needing to say. Maybe you could try incorporating one during your second or third blog post?
One thing I would recommend is a stagnant home page, maybe an ‘all about me page’ that mentions what your blog is for? I know you had an all about me section at the top of your first blog post, so you might even be able to cut and paste that into a new ‘all about me’ page and make that page your stagnant home page? This was confusing for me to figure out, I can show you next time we meet as a pod group if you like. In this module, Josh recommend creating sub-categories, which you could do for EDCI 335 and EDCI 338 so you can sort your peer responses, blog posts, and community contribution posts. Overall, I had a hard time finding constructive feedback I could give you! Your first post was great and I’m excited to read more.
