This week in EDCI 336, we had a self-lead class where students got to choose a topic they wanted to explore more of. The topics were EdCamps, Canva, augmented and virtual reality, Audacity, digital storytelling and Google Slides virtual classrooms. Since this class was over zoom, students chose their own workshop and followed a link where we could learn more about our topics. At the end, we all came back and shared what we learned with the class.
This class was a really fun way to wrap up the lesson-portion of EDCI 336. We all got to decide what we wanted to learn more of before the end of term, and everyone got what they wanted. If you felt like you wanted to learn about multiple topics, you had the freedom to switch throughout the class. For me, I got to learn about Canva, Google Slides virtual classrooms, and digital storytelling. Learning about Canva was really useful because I ended up using it to build my final project for EDCI 250! Below I have included how I used Canva to create my final EDCI 250 project, as well as the virtual classroom I created.
I am very grateful for this lesson because I was able to apply what I learned directly to what I was doing in other classes, and what I will be doing in my own future classrooms! Canva is incredibly useful for building graphics for class projects and well as posters to put around my classroom. Digital storytelling was interesting because it can be used for ELL students, which is who I built my EDCI 250 project around. And my virtual classroom backdrop is useful for any online classes I may have to host in the future. I was a little stressed as to how I was going to make my final EDCI 250 project as visually enticing as I wanted, and was worried I would have to draw it all by hand on my iPad. However, Canva reduced my project time in half and I was able to start focussing on other upcoming projects and tasks. Thanks Joanna for putting so much work into our lectures!
