This week in EDCI 336, we missed class due to Thanksgiving. Instead of coming to class, I got to fly to Smithers in northern British Columbia with my partner to spend the weekend with his family and friends. On our way there, our flight was delayed every hour for five hours, and the plane had to attempt to land three times due to weather. However, when we got there, we had fires and boat rides on the lake, made pizza in their pizza oven, explored the mountain that their ski cabin is on, found a stray kitten, AND had a huge dinner.

I had a wonderful time getting to experience this part of the province with my partner and the people he loves. I was definitely due for an escape from Vancouver Island as well, and the complete change of scenery was so appreciated. Not to mention, I allowed myself to take a break from schoolwork all day Sunday, and I realized how much I missed that feeling of complete freedom.

This experience was actually very educational for me, as I learned that sometimes it’s okay to take breaks and time for yourself, as it allows you to come back well rested and ready to focus. I also realized how different northern British Columbia is from Vancouver Island, and it made me want to explore my province and country more, before travelling to other countries. It now feels strange to call myself a Canadian without actually seeing any of the country beyond Vancouver Island and Edmonton. So it was a really eye opening experience for me, and I’m so blessed that his family flew me out there. Below are some pictures from our trip (:
